Markup is not margin

A 50 percent markup is not a 50 percent margin. Owners need to understand both to price correctly.

Track material revenue separately

If labor and material revenue are blended, the business cannot see where margin is disappearing.

Warranty and discounts count

Free parts, rush purchases, callbacks, and undocumented discounts all reduce the margin the owner thought was there.

Field note

Materials leak in boring places

The problem is not always the markup percentage. It can be rush purchasing, warranty parts, missed billing, unused inventory, discounts, substitutions, or field decisions that never make it back into the invoice.

Material recovery should be visible enough that the owner can inspect it without digging through every receipt.

Make the problem measurable

A vague business problem becomes easier to fix when the owner can see its money, time, risk, or value impact.
